Magnesium (Mg) metal substrates have a low density, about 2/3 of that of aluminum, and are the lightest of the many metals. The strength and rigidity are good, and the stiffness is close to aluminum alloy, which can be made into lightweight structural parts. Good thermal conductivity, the thermal conductivity is 1.1 times that of aluminum. The processing performance is excellent, and a variety of metal forming processes can be used. It is relatively inexpensive and is one of the lightweight metals widely used in engineering. It is susceptible to oxidation and requires surface treatment to improve corrosion resistance.
